In the 22nd issue of AIR Academic Salon, we were honored to invite Professor Jiang Xiaofan, an associate professor of Columbia University, to give us a report entitled "Intelligent System of People’s Ownership, Governance and People’s Enjoyment".

Xiaofan (Fred) Jiang is an associate professor in the ElectricalEngineering department at Columbia University and Chair of the Smart CitiesCenter at the Data Science Institute. Fred received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D.in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, in 2004, 2007,and 2010, respectively. Fred’s research lies at the intersection of systems anddata, with a focus on intelligent embedded systems and their applications inmobile and wearable computing, intelligent built environments, Internet ofThings, and connected health. His research has been published in top-tiervenues and received numerous awards, including Best Paper Award at IPSN ’05, Best Demo Award at SenSys ’11, IoTDI ’18, IPSN ’20, and SenSys ’21, BestPoster Award at BuildSys ’16, and Best Paper Runner-Up Award at BuildSys ’17and ’19. He has served on technical and organization committees of leadingconferences in the field, including TPC Chair of BuildSys ’14, General Chair ofSenSys ’19, and General Chair of BuildSys ’21. Fred is the Founding Treasurerof the newly established ACM Special Interest Group on Energy Informatics(SIGEnergy) . His research has been featured in many popular media outlets,including The Economist, New York Post, Mashable, Gizmodo, The Telegraph, andFast Company. He is the recipient of an NSF Graduate Fellowship, a Vodafone-USFoundation Fellowship, and an NSF CAREER Award.
