Ten years ago, George

Fan developed the classic game Plants vs Zombies. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the book’s release, Fan recently posted the original design manuscript and character sketch of Plants vs Zombies on Twitter.

According to Fan, the original enemy design was aliens, not zombies. The aliens here still came from his previous work "Insaniquarium", and he originally wanted to develop a sequel "Insaniquarium 2". But once he drew his first zombie, he changed his mind.

Another element that is not originally designed is sunflower. The original design is to let players water these radish-like plants (Fan calls them Tubers) and then pull them out of the ground to make money. Later, he thought the design was too boring, so he changed it to sunflower.

In addition, Fan’s previous design was that there were six lines in the game, instead of five as it is now, and the most original design was that there were no lines in the game, but a more traditional tower defense game, where players could build a maze for the enemy to pass through.

Inspired by Majic, the early prototype lets you make a seed bag, and the game will extract seeds from this seed bag and send them to you through the conveyor belt. You can see these residual designs at the conveyor level of the official version of the game.

The picture below shows the previous design of pea shooter, a tomato with a spout. "I know that when I design like this, I subconsciously want to turn Snifit in SMB2 into something that can obviously shoot at you. I always appreciate Shigeru Miyamoto’s ability to communicate without too many words. "

So from Fan’s breaking news, the original design of Plants vs Zombies is very different from now.

After George Fan left Baokai, he developed octogeddon, which is a 2D horizontal game. The player plays a mutant octopus. After seeing the movie of octopus sushi made by the same kind of chef, the mutant octopus is very angry and invades the earth to launch destructive actions. Mutant octopus should use its tentacles to attack any enemy target that comes to stop, and can avoid the attack by moving left and right.

It is worth mentioning that EA has previously confirmed in its financial report that there will be a new game Plants vs Zombies this year. I don’t know whether it is a series or a derivative series of Garden Wars.

The following are pictures made by fans for PVZ’s 10th birthday celebration:
