The story goes back to March 2017, when Xin Rong, a China student from the University of Michigan, rented a small plane at ann arbor Airport.
This is a flight of about 42 kilometers. It was originally planned to fly from Ann Arbor to Harbor Springs, but in the end it flew 55 kilometers more and even flew over the border.
Xin Rong himself is an experienced pilot who loves aviation and belongs to the Michigan Pilots Association. This flight should have landed safely.
But when the fuel was exhausted, Xin Rong’s plane crashed in a forest area in Ontario, Canada.
The wreckage of the plane was found in a forest area about 37.3 miles east of Marathon at 11: 38 pm on Wednesday.
When rescuers went to search and rescue, they were surprised to find that there was no trace of Xin Rong, and no one was alive or dead! No footprints were found in the surrounding snow.
Finally, after months of searching and investigation, the police came to the conclusion that Xin Rong changed the plane to autopilot mode during the flight and committed suicide by jumping off the plane at an altitude of 9000 feet …
Xin Rong is a member of the Michigan Flying Association. Before his death, he said that he liked flying to take friends sightseeing: "I have flown many places, including Detroit River, San Francisco Bay and Puget Sound."
Andy Fowler, vice president of the Michigan Flying Association, said, "Xin Rong is not a novice and is fully capable of flying a plane skillfully."
According to Xin Rong’s resume, he came from Changchun, China, and graduated from the Automation Department of Tsinghua University in 2011. At the time of the accident, he was studying for a doctorate in the field of artificial intelligence at the University of Michigan, and originally planned to graduate in 2017.
He also worked as an intern in Baidu, Google, Microsoft and other big companies.
He and his wife Surong Ruan are classmates of Miu University.
On May 31, Surong Ruan wrote to Judge Julia Owdziej, hoping that the court would declare her husband dead.
Ruan said that he lives in San Francisco, while Xin Rong’s parents live in China all the year round. The reality makes it difficult for her to deal with the husband and wife’s property and the insurance company’s claims for her husband. Many difficulties can be avoided if the court declares Xin Rong dead.
She wrote:
"All the evidence indicates the aircraft was operating normally and crashed because it ran out of fuel, and at some point prior to the crash, the pilot exited the aircraft. As ground searches were negative, no parachute or life vests on the plane and the aircraft was cruising at around 9000 ft altitude, I believe Xin Rong exited the aircraft and didn’t have a chance of being alive."
In the letter to the judge, she provided more details about Xin Rong’s disappearance. His wallet, iPad and other personal belongings were all found on the plane.
On October 5, Michigan judge Julia Owdziej signed a decree announcing that Xin Rong was killed in a plane accident. The case has also come to an end, but Rong’s remains have never been found.
Until September 9, 2018, human bones were found in rural areas southwest of Saginaw County, Michigan.
Initially, a laboratory at Michigan State University generated a DNA map from the remains and determined that the person was white or Hispanic.
However, a company based in Houston detected different results and thought that this person might be an East Asian or an Inuit.
The local sheriff’s office then looked through the recent disappearances in Michigan, and the Xin Rong case quickly attracted attention.
After talking to the University of Michigan police and obtaining Rong’s dental records, it was confirmed that the body was his.
Finally, after a three-year investigation, including two rounds of DNA testing, the authorities announced last Thursday that the identity of the remains was Xin Rong, who "disappeared" four years ago.
Rong’s family in San Francisco has been informed that the case has finally come to an end.
As for why Xin Rong, who was in his prime of life, chose to end his life in this way, it has also become an unknown "secret".
