Pay-as-you-go customers will receive this subsidy this week, and customers who pay bills will see this subsidy in January next year.
In view of the current "special circumstances" surrounding energy prices, Electric Ireland is providing 50 euros of electricity subsidies to its residential customers.
From January 2nd, customers who pay bills will see the subsidy amount in their online accounts.
Pay-as-you-go customers will get subsidies this week.
Electric Ireland also said that it will raise the difficult funds by 2 million euros to 5 million euros.
Pat Fenlon, executive director of the company, said: "2022 is a very challenging year for energy customers, mainly due to the rising international natural gas prices. We are very aware of the pressure our customers are facing this winter. "
"Realizing these special circumstances, Electric Ireland gave up the profits of its residential electricity business. Electric Ireland’s residential customers are expected to receive a subsidy of 50 euros each in the new year. "
Fenlon said that increasing the hardship fund "will help ensure that those who need support most in winter can get it."
"We are committed to helping any customer who has financial difficulties. As always, we encourage any Electric Ireland customers who have difficulties in paying their energy bills to contact us, and we will work with them to make a controllable payment plan. "
The price of natural gas and electricity in Ireland has soared this year, mainly due to the war in Ukraine.
The cost for suppliers to buy wholesale electricity has soared, and the gas and electricity bills of many customers have risen this year-sometimes several times-because some wholesale prices have been passed on.
However, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has extended the suspension period of power cuts due to unpaid energy bills, so customers with financial difficulties need not worry, and they will not be cut off from October 2022 to March 2023.
