On December 16 th, the network reported that after many delays, the Matter standard was finally launched on smart home devices. Google announced on December 15th that Android and Nest devices have fully supported the Matter standard.

Google announced the update on Thursday, calling it an important step for Matter-certified smart home products to enter the market. Now, Android phones can install Matter smart home devices through Google Home application, even including support for Google Fast Pair, to make the installation quick and simple.

Matter needs a hub to act as a controller for other devices. With the update, the following Google products can now serve as the Matter hub:

  Google Home

  Google Home Mini

  Nest Audio

  Nest Mini

Nest Hub (1st and 2nd generation)

  Nest Hub Max

  Nest Wifi Pro

In addition, Nest Hub (second generation), Nest HubMax and Nest Wifi Pro become thread boundary routers, which connect other devices supporting threads to the network. As for Nest Wifi and Nest Thermostat, Google said that these devices will be supported by Matter in 2023.

Apple devices will also be equipped with the Matter device of Google Home application in 2023. At present, Matter devices need to be added from Android phones, but Apple devices can still control them through applications. Although there are not many products certified by Matter in the market at present, it is only a Matter of time before we see a large number of goods with the Matter logo on the shelves.

At present, the types of Matter devices are limited to smart lights, plugs, locks, thermostats and curtains. Google expects the first batch of equipment to arrive during the holiday.

Google also emphasized its partnership with Samsung, where users can easily view the Matter devices set by Samsung SmartThings.
