This is also the second adjustment made by Nintendo to its own game console product line after the launch of Switch Lite last week.
The product itself has not changed much. According to the official announcement, no matter the appearance, weight or thickness, or even the pricing, the new and old models have remained the same, but only the battery life is different.
Among them, the new version of the Switch can support about 4.5-9 hours of battery life, while the old version of the Switch has a battery life of 2.5-6.5 hours. When compared, the gap is still very obvious.
▲ The outer packaging box of the new version of Switch also uses a full red color scheme. Friends who want to start pay attention to distinguishing the old and new formats.
Of course, the specific endurance performance also depends on the actual game played. The official test is still conducted with the legend of zelda: The Breath of the Wilderness. The old Switch can only support about 3 hours, but the new Switch can be extended to 5.5 hours, with an increase of 83%.
We can also compare the data of Switch Lite: it can support 3-7 hours of battery life, which is still better than the old Switch, but still not as good as the battery life performance of the new switch.
However, in terms of the light size of Switch Lite, the battery capacity should be smaller, and the reason why it can surpass the original Switch in battery life is mainly because Nintendo adopts a "more efficient" Nvidia Tegra chip, so it is helpful for fever and battery life.
The appearance of this new version of Switch also confirmed the previous rumors-at that time, people found from Nintendo’s documents submitted to the FCC in the United States that the new Switch will be equipped with the same improved chip as Switch Lite in the future, and there will be faster flash memory.
▲ iFixit dismantled the original Switch two years ago.
At present, we can’t know the specific model and specifications of this chip, but according to the analysis of Anandtech and other media, Nvidia has planned to improve the process technology of Tegra X1 chip, which is expected to increase from 20nm to 16nm or even 12nm.
The adjustment of the process technology can not only save the production cost, but also make the chip smaller, improve the machine heating and battery life, and let the Switch run the game at a faster main frequency. The specific details still have to wait for the disassembly of the real machine.
However, the appearance of this new model also makes us have to guess the relationship between it and another rumored "Switch Pro". After all, from the hardware point of view, the new version of the Switch is obviously not up to the core players’ expectations of "enhanced performance".
Perhaps the "Pro" model will not be released until next year, but it is also possible that the "Pro" model does not exist at all.
In addition to the new equipment, Nintendo also announced two sets of Joy-Con handles with new color matching, namely "Neon Purple" and "Neon Orange", which are still priced at 7,480 yen (about RMB 477) and will be officially released on October 4.
The new version of Switch will be released on August 1, and the pricing is still HK$ 2,340 (about RMB 2,060).
Considering that Nintendo has announced its cooperation with Tencent, it will introduce the Switch game console to the Chinese mainland market, and the licensed equipment listed in China at that time should also directly enable the new versions of Switch and Switch Lite models.
