In 2018 CES, Korea Winter Olympics and MWC, 5G is undoubtedly a hot topic, including Qualcomm, Intel, Huawei, Samsung, Ericsson, ZTE and major telecom operators are all discussing the blueprint for 5G development.

With the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3rd generation partnership project, 3GPP) completing the formulation of Release 15 5G communication standard in June 2018, Tuo Tuo Industry Research Institute predicts that a 5G technology competition will be held in 2018.

Xie Yushan, research associate of Tuotuo Industrial Research Institute, pointed out that as the 5G standard entered the actual formulation stage, the 5G application scenarios gradually formed a consensus, and the demand for 5G applications gradually emerged.

Among them, the deployment of Small Cell can meet the increasing demand for data traffic, which is very important for the development of 5G. It is estimated that the installed capacity of Small Cell equipment in the world will reach 2.838 million units in 2018 and will grow to 4.329 million units in 2019, with an annual rate of 52.5%.

Small Cell is the key to realize 5G and mobile edge computing.

With the gradual maturity of 5G technology and the increasing importance of edge computing, new services and equipment will be improved in the future, and more functions will be at the endpoint. Because of its high speed, low latency and large number of connections, 5G brings new opportunities and business opportunities to enterprises, and even makes the deployment of things connected (Internet of Things) possible.

And 5G is also one of the keys to promote fully-automatic driving cars, because low-delay communication can provide drivers with all kinds of instant messages, including traffic, weather and other driving conditions, and even allow cars to connect with smart city infrastructure such as parking timers or traffic signs.

It can be seen that 5G will connect new devices, realize new Internet applications, and rapidly increase mobile traffic, some of which will also come from indoors.

In order to strengthen indoor signal quality and meet users’ needs, telecom operators must improve indoor coverage. Small Cell is smaller than traditional Macro Cell, and its deployment mode is flexible. Telecom operators can expand coverage and network capacity through Small Cell to improve users’ communication quality.

Especially in densely populated areas, Small Cell can divert 80% of traffic, that is, Small Cell can increase hotspot capacity and make up for areas not covered by Macro network (including indoor and outdoor) to improve network efficiency and service quality.

Layout of Small Cell business opportunities, China, the United States and South Korea have the fastest pace

In the development of mobile broadband, Small Cell meets the needs of network development, supports multi-frequency and multi-mode, and integrates unlicensed spectrum; Through indoor digital upgrade, the smooth evolution of the network can be realized and the efficiency of maintenance can be improved; Simplify the difficulty of base station deployment and improve network performance; It can also carry a large number of Internet of Things and support integrated wireless backhaul, improving environmental integration and greatly reducing investment costs.

Therefore, with the development of 5G technology, Small Cell has become the key equipment actively adopted by telecom operators all over the world. At present, telecom operators in China, the United States and South Korea are the most active, such as China Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and SK Telecom.
