The victim was Jacob Blake, 29. The Washington Post and other American media said that the police still have not explained the reason for the shooting. Video circulating on social media showed that Blake was walking towards a car parked on the side of the road when the police suddenly shot him in the back at least seven times in a row. At that time, Blake’s three sons were sitting in the car. Blake was then taken to the hospital in Milwaukee, where he was placed in the intensive care unit due to serious injuries.
After the video of the shooting incident was uploaded to social media by witnesses, it aroused great anger among some local people. At about 10 pm on the 23rd, about 100 people took to the streets to demonstrate, shouting slogans such as "No justice, no peace" and clashed with the police. The police then fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Benjamin Crump, an American civil rights lawyer who represented black Freud, commented on this matter, saying that three children’s hearts would be broken forever when they saw the police shooting at their father. Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King, also tweeted, accusing the police of excessive violence against blacks.
Regarding the condemnation from many parties, Wisconsin Governor Tony evers responded on Twitter: "We oppose the excessive use of force by the police against black residents in Wisconsin." The Wisconsin Department of Justice also stated in a statement on the 24th that the police involved had been placed on administrative leave. The criminal investigation department is investigating the shooting incident and will try to provide an incident report within 30 days.
