The third generation of electric equation: setting a new benchmark in motor racing
The promotion of the new Gen3 racing car aims to set a new benchmark in sports performance, efficiency and sustainability. This is also the common goal of the FIA and the electric formula. In the fourth season of participating in the electric formula, Porsche developed a brand-new Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 racing car. Like other Gen3 racing cars, it is different from the past in many aspects. The main differences are as follows:
Performance: The maximum output power of the new Gen3 racing car is increased from 250kW to 350kW(476hp).
Powertrain: developed by Porsche Motorsports, the maximum power of the rear axle is increased to 350kW, which is 100kW more than the previous generation (Gen2).
Braking: On the basis of 350kW in the rear axle, the new 250kW in the front axle increases the power of the kinetic energy recovery system to 600kW, which is more than twice that of the Gen2 racing car. The newly added friction brake is controlled by wire control equipment.
Efficiency: The output efficiency of motor is about 95%, while that of internal combustion engine is about 40%. More than 40% of the consumed energy comes from energy recovery during braking.
Charging capacity: The new overcharge capacity of Gen3 racing car should be able to provide 600kW charging power during the race. This means that the charging power of the new generation of electric equations is almost twice that of the most advanced commercial charging in the world. In addition, the fast charging technology can ensure the continuous high performance of the battery.
Sustainability: According to the parts manufacturer, the batteries of the new Gen3 racing car are made of minerals from sustainable sources. At the end of each season, batteries will be reused or recycled. For the carbon fiber body, the manufacturer said that carbon fiber was recycled from the retired Gen2 racing car. This will reduce the carbon footprint of production by more than 10%. In order to reduce the impact on the environment, the carbon footprint of the new generation of electric formula racing cars has been monitored from the design stage. As part of the zero carbon emission commitment of the electric equation, all inevitable emissions will be compensated.
