The above results were obtained after three years’ investigation in five assembly lines and four assembly lines of factories run by Samsung, Hynix Semiconductor Inc and Fairchild Semiconductor since 2009.
Park Jung-sun, head of the research institute, said: "Our research results are of great significance. The production lines of these factories were found to contain a certain amount of carcinogens such as benzene, arsenic and formaldehyde. Although their content is not enough to cause cancer, it is worrying enough. These factories must try their best to minimize these contents. "
According to the research results, benzene, which can cause leukemia, was accidentally produced in some production lines and assembly lines, and the content was less than one million, which was still within the acceptable range. However, the arsenic content detected on the assembly line is 0.061 mg/m3, which is much higher than the acceptable maximum of 0.01 mg/m3. Arsenic can cause lung cancer. Considering the health of employees, these factories must take immediate measures.
In July last year, six young employees of Samsung’s chip factory suffered from leukemia and other blood diseases. For this reason, Samsung had to hire a well-known American environmental consulting company to investigate these cases. The results show that the illness of employees is not related to the chip factory. According to Xinhua News Agency, Samsung also organized an expert committee to conduct a self-examination on whether there is cancer risk in the factory the year before last. The latest survey results undoubtedly gave Samsung a heavy blow. (Text/)
