  China pre-sales manager of Parametric Technology (Shanghai) Software Co., Ltd. leads the pre-sales technical team in China to be responsible for the pre-sales promotion and application of CAD/ PLM/ ALM/ IOT/ Big Data and AR/VR technologies. He has many years of application and service experience in PLM/ ALM/ IoT/ AR&VR software, and has participated in or been responsible for automobiles, ships, weapons, construction machinery, high technology, household appliances, energy and VR.

  With the release of cyber-physical systems White Paper (2017), people have a higher level of understanding of "interconnection" and "intelligent manufacturing", and how to seize the opportunity and grasp the future is more concerned. If the white paper is a top-level theoretical guidance document, then the keynote speech "Discussion on CPS Integrated Architecture and Application Scenarios" by Mr. Chen Jizhong, the head of PTC (Parameter Technology Company) Intelligent Committee at the press conference can be regarded as the practical verification of this concept.

  PTC Company is constantly refreshing in our field of vision, which is no longer limited to the field of three-dimensional design, and its strategic layout has far exceeded our expectations. Since the acquisition of ThingWorx in 2013, PTC has started the strategy of Internet of Things, and has developed a set of powerful products of Internet of Things.

  PTC summarized 2016 as the company’s most successful year in the field of Internet of Things. In the past year, PTC has expanded the year-on-year growth rate of Internet of Things bookings, attracted new customers and partners to join its Internet of Things ecosystem, enhanced its Internet of Things technology portfolio, and gained industry recognition and certification, at the same time, it has effectively promoted the development of its Internet of Things academic program. Jim Heppelmann, President and CEO of PTC, said: "We are not involved in the Internet of Things business with a tentative attitude. From the first day, we are determined to become the leading Internet of Things platform enterprise in the industry market. 2016 is a triumphant year for PTC. We have further proved our vision and our products have been recognized by customers all over the world. In 2017, many of the world’s largest and most successful companies competed with us to launch new Internet of Things projects. "

  2017 is also recognized as the year of "landing" in our industry. After more than two years of thinking and precipitation, people have a further understanding of the application of intelligent factories, Internet of Things, smart products and big data, and many enterprises have begun to seek solutions. How to make our ideas meet expectations and how to avoid possible risks? There may be a long way to go.

  Recently, on the occasion of the New Industry "Smart Interconnection" Summit, we contacted Qin Cheng, the pre-sales manager of PTC China, and asked him to answer several questions we were concerned about, hoping to provide us with some references based on his years of practical experience.

  Question 1: Manager Qin, please talk about your biggest experience in pre-sales promotion and application.

  I started to promote industrial Internet solutions in the manufacturing industry in early 2015. This market has developed very rapidly from the beginning when users didn’t understand what ‘PTC was doing, to the moment when users invited us to introduce and show the ThingWorx Internet of Things platform, and many friends entered this field through mergers and acquisitions. It just shows that China manufacturing enterprises have fully realized the value brought by the integration of IT/OT and the integration of new technology and traditional manufacturing. In such an industry and such a company, we are deeply honored to work with our partners to promote the Internet of Things, big data and AR/VR technologies to our customers, help them improve their manufacturing efficiency, optimize the manufacturing operation process, and step by step toward the tomorrow of intelligent manufacturing, and feel that the challenge is arduous.

  Q 2: VR technology was sought after by capital at the beginning of 2016, but by the end of the year, it experienced the cold winter of capital, which can also be said to have entered a rational development stage. We have noticed that there are special applications for VR/AR technology in PTC software. Please tell us how AR and VR technology are applied in industry and what are their advantages?

  AR/VR technology can be applied to design, manufacturing, marketing, service and other aspects in the industrial field. For example, in the manufacturing process, operational instructions are displayed in real time through AR/VR technology, and in the marketing process, their large-scale equipment and detailed information are displayed at the press conference through AR/VR technology. Although VR technology can free hands, it relies too much on wearable devices. However, wearable devices are often difficult to be widely used in industrial enterprises because of their high price and inconvenient upgrade operation. Compared with VR technology, AR technology can be used with mobile terminal devices of any operating system, which is more civilian. The AR of PTC can also quickly reuse the existing three-dimensional design model of enterprises, and connect the real-time operation information of products and business system information of enterprises to form the next generation computing platform. It not only allows enterprises to use the latest technology, but also simplifies the landing process of its technology application.

  Q3: Please tell us about how many modules PTC software has launched in China.

  PTC software is divided into traditional application solutions and Internet of Things platform solutions, covering the whole life cycle of enterprise product design, manufacturing and service products. Traditional enterprise solutions include Creo(CAD), Windchill(ePLM), Servigistic(SLM) and Kinex(Manufacturing Solution). Internet of Things platform solution ThingWorx platform includes device/product Connectivity, application development Foundation, big data analysis Analytic and augmented reality Studio modules.

  Q 4: What advantages do you think PTC software has compared with the software in the same industry? What is the core competitiveness of PTC software?

  PTC has been deeply involved in the manufacturing industry for 30 years, and has accumulated the best practices in the fields of R&D, manufacturing and service of numerous manufacturing enterprises, as well as numerous classic cases, including GE, Airbus and John Deere. These best practices and business experiences are not available to many Internet vendors with the same technology. At the same time, with PTC’s massive investment and rapid development in the fields of Internet of Things, big data and AR/VR, PTC and software companies in the same industry have gradually formed a differentiated development model. We are more in line with the idea of American industrial internet, emphasizing the use of software technology, especially the Internet of Things and big data technology to improve manufacturing processes, efficiency and manufacturing quality. At the same time, it also makes PTC the only software supplier in this field that can provide end-to-end (connection, storage, analysis, application, AR/VR) comprehensive Internet of Things platform solutions.

  Q 5: What was the most difficult problem you encountered in the past project implementation? What advice do you have for the enterprise?

  The most difficult problem is that we find that the level of industrial intelligence of enterprises in China is generally much lower than that of European and American countries. Many enterprises even stay in the stage of design and technology relying on paper drawings. Even though the road to digitalization may not be finished, they are shouting the slogan of Industry 4.0 and intelligent manufacturing every day. Therefore, when the case of this situation falls, it is suggested that our enterprises need to face up to their shortcomings and make up digital courses, so that it is possible to quickly catch up with European and American enterprises on the road of industrialization for many years.

  Question 6: What do you think of our club, and what aspects do you hope to further cooperate with our club?

  Industry 4.0 Club is an excellent platform to connect customers, suppliers and like-minded friends. PTC is a new technology supplier who is good at innovation. Our philosophy is to serve the manufacturing customers in China and help the industrial Internet to land in China.

  In the future, I hope that our two sides can carry out multi-dimensional and in-depth cooperation in the fields of market promotion, innovation and technology development forum, business opportunities and innovation demonstration center construction.
