With the gradual improvement of the industrialization level of our country, we are also facing a major problem: environmental pollution. Do you always check the air pollution index for a few days before going out? Recently, the Chinese Academy of Sciences released a report on livable cities in China. In this report, Qingdao, Kunming and Sanya ranked among the top 40 cities surveyed in China.

What factors are these rankings based on? Take a look at the following report:

The study ranked the cities based on 29 assessment indicators in six areas,
including city safety, public service facilities, natural environment, cultural
environment, transportation, and pollution level.

The survey ranks cities based on 29 indexes in six areas, including: urban safety, public service facilities, natural environment, cultural environment, traffic, and pollution level.

Qingdao tops the livability index list for its outstanding performance in
all the six areas. Kunming’s ranking benefits from its pleasant natural
environment and characteristic cultural environment. Sanya wins for its air
quality and Dalian performs well in city safety and natural environment. Weihai,
meanwhile, cracks the top five due to its natural and cultural environment.

Qingdao ranks first in the livability index list because it is excellent in six fields. Kunming ranks among the best because of its pleasant natural environment and distinctive cultural environment. Sanya wins with its air quality, Dalian has a high index of urban safety and natural environment, and Weihai ranks among the top five with its natural and cultural environment.

The reason Beijing is placed at the bottom of the list lies in its
environment pollution, inconvenient transportation and little appreciation of
its natural environment by its residents.

Beijing is at the bottom of the list because of environmental pollution, inconvenient transportation and residents’ little value for its natural environment.

The study also shows that livable index of the 40 surveyed cities are
generally low, the average point of which is 59.92, lower than basic residents’
acceptance point of 60.

The survey also shows that the livability index of the 40 cities surveyed is generally low, with an average index of 59.92, which is lower than the acceptable score of 60 for basic residents.

The top ten cities are Qingdao, Kunming, Sanya, Dalian, Weihai, Suzhou, Zhuhai, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Chongqing.

Beijing and Guangzhou are ranked first and second from the bottom respectively.

After reading the above survey, we know the livability index. The root of the word livability is live, and the suffix -able is translated as "can be", livable.
Translated as "habitable", let’s look at several other verbs that can add -able. The suffix -able can be changed into many patterns!

  adjust-adjustable

Adjust means "adjust/adapt", and the suffix -able means "adjust/adapt".

The height of the bicycle seat is adjustable.

The height of the saddle of this bicycle can be adjusted.

  accept-acceptable

Accept means "accept", and the suffix -able means "acceptable".

The solution to this problem is acceptable.

The solution to this problem is acceptable.

  rely-reliable

Rely means "relying on", and after adding the suffix -able, it means "dependable".

A man who is dead to the justice is not reliable.

A person without a sense of justice is not to be trusted.

  use-usable

Use means "use", and the suffix -able means "available".

The manuscript might be usable, if the author could fill it out a
little.

If the author enriches it, this work can be used.

  vary-variable

Vary means "change", and the suffix -able means "changeable". Freely translated as "changeable, changeable"

His mood is as variable as the weather.
