With the deepening of the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection, and the promotion of national policies, the development speed of new energy vehicles in China can be said to be very rapid, and various new energy vehicles emerge one after another, including pure electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, which is simply a waste of money. In the new energy circle, there are several mainstream models at present, such as BEV, HEV, PHEV and REEV. Many people can’t tell which model it is. Today, we will take a look at the types of new energy vehicles, so we won’t feel confused when choosing a car.

Bev (EV): Bev is the abbreviation of BaiBattery Electrical Vehicle, which refers to pure electric vehicles, and is usually called EV. The pure electric vehicle takes the battery as the whole power source of the vehicle, and only relies on the power battery and the driving motor to provide the driving power for the vehicle. It is mainly composed of chassis, body, power battery, driving motor, electrical equipment and other systems. The advantages are high energy conversion efficiency, zero exhaust emission and no noise. The disadvantage is its biggest short-board battery life problem. Representative Model S include Tesla Model S and Emgrand EV.

HEV is the abbreviation of Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which means hybrid vehicle, and refers to the hybrid vehicle. HEV models are equipped with a set of electric drive system on the traditional engine drive for hybrid drive, and its main power source still depends on the engine, but with the addition of the motor, the demand for fuel can be reduced. Generally, they rely on the motor to drive at the start or low speed stage, and when the speed comes up, or in road conditions such as rapid acceleration and climbing, the engine and the motor work together to provide power to drive the car. There is also an energy recovery system, which can charge the battery when braking or going downhill. Representative models include Toyota Prius, Camry dual engine and Accord hybrid.

PHEV is the abbreviation of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It has two independent power systems, the traditional engine and EV system. The main power source is the engine, supplemented by the motor. But for HEV, it can charge the power battery through the plug-in port and run in pure electric mode. When the power battery is dead, it can run as a general fuel vehicle through the engine. Its advantage lies in the independent existence of two power systems, which can run as a pure electric vehicle or as an ordinary fuel vehicle when there is no electricity, so as to avoid the trouble of battery life. The disadvantage is that the cost is higher, the price will increase, and the charging pile will be installed like a pure electric vehicle. Representative models include BMW 5 Series New Energy and BYD Tang DM.

REEV is also an extended-range electric vehicle. Like a pure electric vehicle, it is powered by a power battery and driven by a motor. The difference is that the extended-range electric vehicle also has an engine system. When the power battery is dead, the engine will start to charge the battery, and when the battery has electricity, it can continue to drive the vehicle. Some people will confuse it with HEV. What we need to understand is that REEV’s engine does not drive the vehicle, but only charges the power battery, and then the battery provides power to drive the motor to drive the car. Representative models: Li ONE, BMW i3 extended range version.

The above are the common types of new energy vehicles. Have you made a clear distinction?
