A Precharge Relay is an essential component in modern high-voltage electrical systems, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage units, and industrial power electronics. Its primary purpose is to prevent sudden current surges when high-voltage circuits are connected, thereby protecting sensitive components and ensuring system reliability. Precharge Relay

The core function of a precharge relay revolves around controlled charging of capacitive loads. In many high-voltage systems, components such as inverters and power modules include large capacitors. When these capacitors are connected directly to a high-voltage source, the initial inrush current can be extremely high, potentially damaging the capacitors, wiring, or other electronic components. To mitigate this risk, a precharge relay works together with a precharge resistor to gradually charge the system’s capacitors.
