  For the first time aRolls-Royce has an opening tailgate, called ‘ The Clasp’ . In a nod to the erawhen luggage was mounted on the exterior of the motor-car, so the occupants didnot travel with their belongings, the rear profile of Cullinan is a two-part, ‘ D-Back’ format, with the bustle denoting the place of the luggage. ‘ The Clasp’ opensand closes in its two sections automatically at the touch of the key fobbutton.

  Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s luggage compartment lid is very novel in design. This design is intended to pay tribute to the era of external luggage rack, when people never carried their luggage with them. The rear of Cullinan has a two-part D-Back design, and the outer part is dedicated to luggage storage. The rear compartment lid can be automatically opened and closed by pressing the button lightly.

  Therear passenger compartment of Cullinan has been designed to offer the best seatin the house for the owner’ s particular needs. Two rear configurations areoffered – Lounge Seats or Individual Seats.

  In order to meet the special needs of customers, Rolls-Royce Cullinan has equipped the rear passengers with the top seats in the brand’s history. At present, there are two kinds of seats for customers to choose from: sofa seats and independent seats.

  The rear seats also folddown – a first for Rolls-Royce. The seats fold electrically in a number ofconfigurations by pressing the appropriate button in the boot or rear doorpocket. On e press sees each backrest effortlessly fold down, whist at the sametime moving the headrests upwards to avoid making an imprint on the seatcushion. Both seat backs can be folded completely, creating a flat load area orin a 2/3 and 1/3 split, increasing practicality even further. Rear passengerscan still travel with a long load, or use the carpeted seat back as anoccasional table on which to rest their precious personal items.

  Rolls-Royce launched the rear folding design in Cullinan for the first time. As long as the button in the luggage compartment or the rear door storage compartment is pressed, the seat can be folded down automatically. When the back of the chair is folded, the headrest will also be lifted upward to avoid leaving an indentation on the chair cushion. When the back of the chair is completely folded down, the rear sofa seat will vacate a flat area according to the ratio of 2/3 to 1/3 to store more articles, further enhancing the practicality. Passengers in the back row can use this design to store long articles, or they can put away the chair back on one side and use it as a table board. The chair back is provided with a table blanket for passengers to place valuables.

But for thosewishing to carry a long item back from their trip – whether it be a Mark Rothkofrom the Art Gallery or a newly discovered artefact from the latestarchaeological dig – a loading length of 2245mm and load capacity of 1930litres is accessed by electronically raising the boot floor to meet the seatbase, allowing the item to slide through effortlessly.

  Rolls-Royce Cullinan has plenty of storage space at the back. The luggage compartment has a space of 560 liters, and if the privacy partition screen between the luggage compartment and the rear seat is put away, the storage space can reach 600 liters. In addition, because the rear seat base is designed to be higher than the floor of the luggage compartment, even if both seats are folded down, the articles in the luggage compartment will be well fixed and will not slide forward, which is essentially different from the design of other brands of SUVs. If you place long articles, you only need to lift the floor of the luggage compartment to be flush with the seat base with one button, and you can realize a super-large storage space with a length of 2,245 mm and an area of 1,930 liters, so that articles can be placed freely in a spacious space.

Compared with customers who pursue practicality, customers who choose to customize independent seats in the rear pay more attention to the ultimate luxury experience brought by Rolls-Royce Cullinan. There is a fixed armrest in the back row between two independent seats in the back row, which can accommodate wine cabinets, champagne utensils and refrigerators with Rolls-Royce whisky utensils.   Having stepped directlyinto the cabin, thanks to the wide aperture of the doors and completely flatfloor, driver and passengers press the door closing button to seal themselveswithin the sanctuary of Cullinan’ s cabin. Or one touch of the sensor on theexterior door handles will see the doors automatically close themselves fromoutside.

  Cullinan’s car door has a large opening angle, and the floor inside the car is designed as flat ground, so that drivers and passengers can easily enter the car. After stepping into the carriage, the driver and passenger only need to press the button and the door will automatically close. In addition, the door can also be closed automatically when touching the inductive contact on the door handle outside the car.

The steering wheel is wrapped in a soft material that can be heated, suggesting that Rolls-Royce Cullinan is ready to start a journey to the cold snow field at any time. Heatable ventilated seats allow drivers and passengers to enjoy the most comfortable temperature whether it is cold or hot. Sitting in the driver’s seat, all functions and configurations are unobstructed, and the operation is convenient and comfortable.

  In the process of designing Cullinan, the use of luxury architecture has truly realized independent innovation. According to Giles Taylor and his design team’s high-body model blueprint, Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s engineering team used the natural extensibility of luxury architecture to adjust the framework adaptively.

  It was designed andengineered from the ground up in such a way as to be scalable to the size andweight requirements of different future Rolls-Royce mod els, including thosewith different propulsion, traction and control systems, thus underpinning thelong-term future product roadmap.

  The design and engineering of luxury architecture is completely from scratch, with high extensibility, which can meet the size and weight requirements of different models in the future, including matching different power systems, traction systems and control systems, so as to realize long-term product planning in the future.

  Integrating new technologies into this framework is another key to ensure Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s relaxed all-terrain capability. Starting with the power transmission system, the engineering team transplanted Rolls-Royce’s iconic "magic carpet-like driving experience" to off-road conditions.

  “The drivetrain system weengineered for Cullinan had one key job to do,” explains Caroline Krismer,Engineering Project Leader for Cullinan. “To bring the famed Rolls-Royce ‘ MagicCarpet Ride’ to all other terrains possible, while ensuring class-leading on-roadbehaviour in the SUV sector.”

  "The transmission system we built for Rolls-Royce Cullinan has one of the most critical tasks," explained Caroline Krismer, head of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan project. "It is to create the iconic" magic carpet-like driving experience "of Rolls-Royce cars in all terrain, and to have the most advanced road performance in the SUV market segment."

  Rolls-Royce’ s celebratedMagic Carpet Ride impresses off-road as well as on-road thanks to the newlighter architecture, and the latest generation of self-levelling airsuspension. A newdouble-wishbone front axle and 5-link rear axle deliver astounding levels ofcontrol over lateral roll and shear forces and deliver incredible agility andstability, as does the addition of four-wheel steering, all contributing toincredible drivability and nimbleness.

  The air suspension system will continuously adjust the electronically controlled vibration absorption system at the calculation frequency of hundreds of millions of times per second according to the acceleration of the car body and wheels, steering input and camera information.   "When designing Cullinan, I found that the first advantage of using luxury architecture is that the wheels can be laid out completely according to my own ideas, so that I can design a unique roof shape, which reflects the excellent inheritance of Rolls-Royce cars," Taylor said. "This gives Cullinan the majesty of the God of War and shows the beauty of output and strength all the time. At the same time, the entry and exit of the rear seats is free and effortless. "

  This strength and power areimmediately apparent from the face of Cullinan. Key features such as lights andair intakes are deep set into the bodywork, whilst strong vertical andhorizontal lines create a powerful visage, with the prominent brow of a Saxonwarrior created by the line that runs across the top of the pantheon grille and‘ eyebrow’ -like daytime running lights. This approach lends a toughness ofexpression to the front of Cullinan.

  The beauty of Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s strength can be seen from his face. Key features such as headlights and air intake grille are deeply integrated into the overall design of the car body, and the vertical and horizontal lines make Rolls-Royce Cullinan visually full of power. Above the Parthenon-style air intake grille and the eyebrow-shaped daytime running lights, a horizontal line runs through it, showing the aggressive bearing of Saxon warriors. The whole front face gives people a sense of dignity.

  Thegrille is created from hand-polished stainless steel, but for Cullinan it is setslightly proud of the surrounding bodywork that pushes it up and forward. The Rolls-Royce badge andSpirit of Ecstasy ride si gnificantly above the line of the wing, giving them aunique vantage point.

  The air intake grille is still made of hand-polished stainless steel. Cullinan is different from other Rolls-Royce models. By shaping the body, the air intake grille is pushed up and forward, so that the Rolls-Royce logo and the goddess of celebration stand proudly at the front of the car, showing the king’s demeanor.

  Away from the face ofCullinan the vertical lines that run from the A-pillars down along the raisedbonnet edge, down the side of the grille and into the metal skid plate belowemphasise the height of the car and its dominant character.

  Crossing the front face of Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the longitudinal lines extend downward from the A-pillar to the edge of the engine hood, and are further connected to the metal anti-collision skateboard below through the air intake grille, which highlights the body height of Rolls-Royce Cullinan and its momentum of dominating the world.

  From the side, thepurposefulness of Cullinan is clear. There is an uncompromising sheerness ofthe typical Rolls-Royce long bonnet profile, with the bonnet itself seen to beset higher than the wings of the car to communicate greater toughness.

  Viewed from the side, the characteristics of Rolls-Royce Cullinan are vividly displayed. Rolls-Royce’s iconic long engine compartment cover is higher than the side wing of the car body, which makes Rolls-Royce Cullinan visually more powerful.

  The line then rises quicklyon the A-pillar to resolve in an ultimate height for Cullinan of 1,836mm, aheight accentuated by the glass to metal ratio as seen from the side. From justover the B-pillar, the roofline becomes quite fast and drops away to the evenfaster rear glass which resolves in an elegantly protruding boot lid thatreminds one of the D-Back Rolls-Royces of the 1930’ s, some of the last of themarque to still carry their owner’ s luggage on a shelf outside the car.

  As the line quickly rises to the A-pillar, it shows the unprecedented body height of Rolls-Royce Cullinan of 1,836 mm.. The ratio of glass to metal on the side of the car body further strengthens the visual sense of the high car body. Starting from the B-pillar, the roof lines become smoother, and when reaching the rear windshield, the lines go faster and fall rapidly, which outlines the elegant luggage compartment cover and pays tribute to the D-Back design of Rolls-Royce cars in the 1930s. This design represents the last generation of Rolls-Royce cars with external luggage racks.

  Taylor’ s famous rotatingline then takes the eye back towards the front of Cullinan as it shoots forwardthrough the 22-inch wheel hubs to give it a beautiful b alance, whilst the depthof the side profile is optically broken up by a most authentic and honest pieceof metal, like a Saxon spear, that flies down the lower door surface and givesthe whole side of the car a beautiful sense of tension.

  Taylor’s iconic rotating lines bring the line of sight back to the front of Rolls-Royce Cullinan. It extends forward to the 22-inch wheel hub, giving the body a very harmonious proportion. The visual coherence of the side is broken by a metal strip like a Saxon spear. This downward-extending metal trim makes the whole body wing full of attractive tension.

  The rear view of Cullinancontinues the theme of functionality, with the design reduced to a functionalbaseline. Any jewellery is subdued. So for instance, the Rolls-Royce badgestands on its own smaller plinth separate and above a thin metal finisher overthe number plate housing. The design theme for the r ear lights also remainssimple as two narrow upright units house all the lights and are minimallyadorned by thin narrow strips of jewellery at their cen tre. A final mark offunctionality are the exposed metal exhaust pipes and skid plate, bothreminding one of Cullinan’ s power and ability.

  The tail design has been simplified to serve only the function, and the bling decoration has receded. For example, the Rolls-Royce logo is located on a separate base of a small metal strip above the number plate. The design of the taillights also maintains a simple style, with two sets of vertical thin light strips and a very narrow decorative strip in the middle. The other two functional designs of Rolls-Royce Cullinan are exposed metal exhaust pipe and anti-collision skateboard, which show the power and performance of Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

  Inside, the cabin of Cullinancombines authentic Rolls-Royce luxury with simple, symmetrical functionality toexpress the car’ s inherent strength. Whether the fascia and centre stack of thedashboard or the arm rests on the doors, structural horizontal and verticalelements underpin the interior design.

  The interior of Rolls-Royce Cullinan combines the luxury of pure Rolls-Royce cars with the beauty of simple and symmetrical functions, showing its inherent strength: whether it is the panel and central structure of the instrument panel, the armrest on the door or the design structure distributed horizontally and vertically.

  The centre stack is framedby hand-finished metal pillars that bridge the upper fascia and middle console,giving it a sense of robustness, whilst also suspending the horizontal elementsof the fascia to give a more commanding feel.

  The frame of the central control panel is wrapped by hand-polished metal strips, which not only connects the upper dashboard with the middle console, but also increases the sense of control by accommodating the horizontal design elements on the dashboard.

  The upper fascia is clad ina newly developed contemporary ‘ Box Grain’ black leather – a durable and waterresistant boarded leather similar to that used in Italian high-end luggage andhandbag design. It gives the fascia a sense of width a s it runs across itsupper segment, allowing the jewellery-like elements of clock and air vents tostand out beautifully.

  The upper dashboard is wrapped in a newly developed modern "checkered grain" black leather, which is durable, waterproof and polished leather, similar to the leather used in Italy’s top luxury luggage. Black makes the dashboard that runs through the whole upper space more stretched, and it is decorated with jewel-like clocks, air conditioning outlets and other devices.

  Finally, the seats inCullinan have a bold, confident character, showcasing Rolls-Royce quality andcraftsmanship. Designed to suit the more casual and dynamic quality ofCullinan, they feature a simple but modern horseshoe graphic which emphasisesthe supportive bolsters of the seat. These new seats also showcaseRolls-Royce’ s mastery of leather craft as this entire backrest panel has beencrafted from a single piece of leather to pick out a highly three-dimensionalsurface.

  The seat design is bold and confident, showing the quality and technology of Rolls-Royce cars. In line with Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s casual and dynamic temperament, its seat adopts a simple and modern horseshoe pattern, emphasizing the support of the seat. The whole chair back is carefully shaped by a whole piece of leather, creating a very three-dimensional surface, which once again fully reflects the exquisite leather technology of Rolls-Royce cars.

  All areas throughout theinterior that are now heated include the front door armrests, front centreconsole lid, lower C-Pillar, rear side armrests and rear centre armrest.
